Financial Sector Development and Inclusion in Africa

Following the completion of the Framework Papers Phase of the Financial Sector Development and Inclusion in Africa project, a call for research proposals for the Country Case Studies Phase was issued in December 2015. The response to the call was extraordinary, with a total of 98 proposals received. Out of these proposals, an initial three (3) proposals were commissioned early in 2016, under the USAID/GDN grant, and they fed into the AERC Senior Policy Seminar held on 22-23 March 2016 in Nairobi, Kenya.

Out of the remaining 92 proposals, an additional six (6) proposals were selected for funding. This followed the project inception workshop that was held on 24 February 2017, at which point the project was commissioned. Prof. Issouf Soumare, University of Laval, Canada, was selected as the coordinator for the project, with Prof. Charles Adjasi, University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, as a supporting resource person.
