Library/Information
Services
The library was established to assist AERC's two major
programmes, the Research Programme and the Training
Programme, with the objective of facilitating the transfer
of knowledge and information. Because a significant
aim of any library is to make information available
to users with minimum impediments, AERC's library is
moving to take full advantage of information technology,
to complete the transformation from static library to
dynamic information service.
As the premier African economics research institution,
moreover, AERC library makes available access to the
latest economics literature. The component of literature
held by or accessible to the library, especially key
economics textbooks, CD-ROMs and journal titles is continously
enhanced.
The process of transforming an essentially manually
managed library into a computerized institutional information
service is already under way. The catalogue, access
to abstracts and other services will be offered on line.
Record and patron management will be fully automated.
Copyrights permitting, information may be repackaged
when necessary and delivered in appropriate formats
to support users with specific information requirements
for projects in economics or related fields. Requests
for data and bibliographic information will be handled
online via electronic mail, thereby enhancing efficiency.
Keep an eye on this page for
continued improvements in accessibility!
